Anterior cervical microdiscectomy

Technique for the cage and for the disc prosthesis implant

The microdiscectomy accompanied by decompression of the neural structures and arthrodesis through anterior approach to the cervical spine represents the gold standard treatment of cervical disc herniation refractory to conservative measures. The interbody fusion, however, has the disadvantage of transforming a stable and mobile structure in a fixed, rigid, and non-functional one in terms of load absorption. In selected cases, arthroplasty may become the treatment of choice for herniated discs with preservation of motion of the affected segment.
